Frequently asked questions - VEGTUS

What is a vegan sneaker / trainer?
Vegan footwear avoids materials of animal origin. Vegtus are 100% cruelty-free since no animals are killed to make our shoes.
Vegan materials
As more and more people go vegan, the demand for vegan products also increases. And vegans will not settle for animal-free materials if they have a high environmental cost; they want something kind to the planet too.
Some of the materials respectful of the planet and animals:
Vegan materials: cotton, linen, polyester, acrylics, cotton flannel, synthetic fibres, synthetic fur, synthetic feathers, nylon, rayon, twill, viscose, recycled plastic, microfibres, primaloft, thinsulate, gore-tex, polartec wind pro, thermolite.
What is the difference between vegan and vegetarian?
Vegetarianism excludes mainly animal meat, while veganism, in addition to this, excludes all animal products, including milk, eggs and honey.
What are vegan people like?
Veganism is more than a diet; the people who follow it have made it a lifestyle. Their greatest struggle is the defence of animals while seeking treatment equal to that of human beings. Vegans refuse to eat any food that comes from animals. However, veganism is not just about food; vegans reject the use of animals as a resource and do not buy clothes or objects that come from animals. If you are vegan, forget about boots or leather jackets and, of course, fur coats. Cosmetics also fall into this prohibited sector, at least those that have been tested on animals.
Vegan food
The vegan diet, unlike most vegetarian diets, strictly prohibits egg, milk and cheese, as well, of course, as all kinds of meat and fish. It may seem impossible to follow a diet like this, but there are many people who put their defence of veganism before an ordinary diet. Pasta, legumes, vegetables, fruit, soy milk and food supplements are the basis of vegan diets, which specialists say can be healthier than some vegetarian diets that include milk and eggs.
Vegan diets are beneficial to us in many ways. They reduce the risk of cancer; cholesterol is more controlled; heart attacks are less common and so are problems with the heart; however, many people refuse to believe this. Other benefits are the fight for the defence of animals. However, it is true that this type of diet also has its problems.
Deficiencies of proteins, vitamins or calcium are some of the problems that can be found when following a vegan diet. This type of diet should always be monitored by a nutritionist and follow a plan that proposes a healthy and balanced diet. Medical check-ups and analyses every 3 months help check your health to ensure you have no bodily problems.

Which clothing brands are vegan?
This certificate is used by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to identify vegan clothing and distinguish and approve cruelty-free brands. This includes both the primary and secondary materials for their manufacture. For example, sometimes bone or animal skin remains are used in glues used in production process; or small pieces of leather – invisible to the naked eye – are used as patches.
The composition is declared on the labels, so you can choose what best suits your philosophy of life. Buy being aware of what you are buying and what kind of world you are contributing to, once you have the necessary information, you can choose what best suits your way of thinking.
What is the circular economy?
The circular economy is a production and consumption model that involves sharing, renting, reusing, repairing, renewing and recycling existing materials and products as many times as possible to create added value; thus extending the life cycle of products.
In practice, it involves reducing waste to a minimum. When a product reaches the end of its life, its materials are kept within the economy whenever possible. These can be productively used over and over again, thus creating additional value.
It contrasts with the traditional linear economic model, based mainly on the “use and throw away” concept, which requires large amounts of cheap and easily accessible materials and energy.
Companies that are committed to vegan fashion and taking care of the environment are Ecoalf, Yatay, Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood.

Fashion goes beyond aesthetics; it is an attitude towards life; a declaration of intent; a way to show the world that things can be done differently, so that we all win. At a time when many things are changing, small gestures can make a difference. Ready to change the world?
How is vegan skin made?
Cactus leather production process.
The mature leaves of the nopal cactus are cut, cleaned and crushed; then left to dry in the sun for three days. They are then ready to be processed and turned into leather fabric. This is all done without chemicals, and the material is biodegradable.
How can you tell if a shoe is vegan?
Dressing vegan means rejecting materials of animal origin, such as fur, wool, feathers and silk. Today, it is very easy to find alternative materials to all of these. It is recommended to support vegan brands that have the PETA certification that guarantees the garments are free of materials of animal origin.
Being vegan means rejecting materials of animal origin such as fur, wool, feathers and silk.
Information about vegans
Vegans don’t just care about diet. In addition to removing animal products from their mouths, they also do not participate in activities that involve the use of these – such as zoos, circuses or rides on the back of elephants – nor do they use them to dress or put on shoes.
